The software component of a computer that allows a user to manage/interact with the computer hardware and software.First Mouse
All are considered "GUI"- Graphic User Interface, pictures that allow the user to interact with the computer.
Common elements to all operating systems
Desktop "metaphor": The desktop metaphor treats the monitor of a computer as if it is the user's desktop, upon which documents and folders of documents can be placed.
Menu Bar: a region where computer menus are housed. Its purpose is to house window or application-specific menus which provide access to such functions as opening files, interacting with an application, or help.
Start menu - Left click on the window Icon in the quick launch bar- menu appears with options.
Shortcuts - Icons have white box with a blue arrow. Deleting from the desk top does not remove the program from the computer.
Task Bar - Bottom Blue bar all programs open will appear here.
Window control system:
minimize - open but only see in the task bar
maximize - full screen
resize - make window smaller - more than one at a time is tiling
Multi task Alt +Tab key will allow you to toggle between open windows.
